Henry Cavill Cast As Superman in the reboot version

January 31, 2011 Leave a comment

The moment many have been waiting for, Warner Bros. has announced who will play the Man of Steel in Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot. British actor Henry Cavill has been cast to portray Clark Kent/Superman for the Legendary Pictures production.

Cavill was apparently the front runner but a decision hadn’t been made up until now. Cavill just finished The Cold Light of Day and will also star in this Fall’s Immortals, directed by Tarsem Sing. Cavill also starred in Showtimes The Tudors television series.

For those concerned that a British actor is playing Superman, don’t forget that Christian Bale is also British. What might not be well known is according to Deadline, Cavill also auditioned to play the Dark Knight and was also a contender for James Bond (but was said to be too young at the time).

Cavill will now have to practice wearing the familiar red and blue tights with the movie being targeted for a December 2012 release.

Just a thought

January 31, 2011 Leave a comment

Ever wonder why you have to slog and work so hard? It’s not for a ‘better’ life, even though to some extent it is, because of decades of conditioning that makes us believe success is determined by the amount of material and superficial items we own. If you think you are working hard towards freedom, you cannot be more wrong. If you think you are climbing up the social ladder, you are fucking deluded.

The only reason why people have mindsets of wanting lives filled with nothing but work and slogging to own material stuff is because your country owes fucking billions of dollars, and that increases the cost of living in the country cause they need the people to buy stuff and enter corporate businesses to boost the economy. And then they give you little benefits that don’t even matter, like giving you the opportunity to vote, making you feel good about yourself. Reinforcing delusions that your life and choice matters, but in actual fact it doesn’t because it’s just making you decide which puppets you would rather have to encourage you to ‘boost the economy’.

This is a never ending cycle, and the debts can never be paid. Why do people play the games these pioneer bastards created?

You think it’s a virtue to be able to endure all that corporate shit and work hard to get rich? It’s not a virtue, it’s a fucking scam. You’re just part of a machine that is needed to ensure productivity goes on. And if that part of the machine malfunctions, it gets replaced in an instant like it was never there.

Heath Ledger museum set in Perth in 2012

January 29, 2011 Leave a comment

An exhibition about the life of Heath Ledger, with displays including the diary he kept while developing his Oscar-winning character The Joker in the movie The Dark Knight, is being planned by the WA Museum.

The actor’s father, Kim Ledger, is working with the museum to develop the exhibition, which will tell the story of the late star’s life, including stories from his childhood and later in life as a movie star.

The Oscar he won after he died, The Joker’s costume and a painting of Ledger by Melbourne artist Vincent Fantauzzo will feature in the exhbition.

Mr Ledger said his family were “extremely pleased” to have an exhibition “preserving and providing historical personal information, objects of interest and movie paraphernalia for a display which will attract both local interest and visitors to WA, from interstate and overseas”.

It is hoped the exhibition will open in 2012.

“As well as the stories from his youth and early career, the exhibition will document his aspirations as a director, his talented work creating music videos and his formidable abilities as a chess player and photographer,” Arts Minister John Day said.

“It will also provide an insight into the scope of Heath’s interests and achievements outside his film career.”

Each of Ledger’s major movies, including The Dark Knight, Brokeback Mountain and Two Hands, will feature in the exhibition.

Next month a tribute night for the actor who died after taking prescription medicines in January, 2008, is planned at Movies By Burswood. His family and famous friend Gemma Ward are expected to attend on February 12.

Steampunk Palin

One-Shot

Issue#1

Energy catastrophe has struck worldwide! Massive oil spills, nuclear meltdowns and more leave us desperate for viable energy sources to rebuild global society and technology.

Inspired by a little tea party, Sarah Palin hits upon the answer: steam power! She begins the ‘Steam Initiative’, touting geothermal energy as the cure for what ails ya. The heads of Big Oil and Nuclear Power are less than happy with this trend, and they send their agents to do in the Rogue Republican. Luckily, she comes prepared with a set of steam-powered armor! (Standard equipment, don’cha know.)

J.H. Williams III addresses Batwoman delay

Batwoman #1

As DC Comics’ solicitations confirmed yesterday, the much-anticipated debut of the Batwoman series has been moved from February to April — the date that writer-artist J.H. Williams III notes he originally wanted.

“Some think that this book was to launch last July,” the award-winning artist writes on his blog, “this was never the case, this was speculation on the part of some. The book was also never to launch in November either. The zero issue which came out at that time was never in the original plans, but was done as a bit of a reminder as requested by DC, and to set the stage, this of course took out time of the work already in progress. February had been decided on the launch date by the company with reservations about that from me. I felt that was a bit too soon in a realistic look at work progression. One of the reasons for this was that I had been seriously committed to making appearances around the world over this past year. I think maybe 3 months or more of work loss occurred during that time. I kept trying to point this out whenever discussions about schedule came up. When first discussing the launch date earlier last year we had originally wanted April 2011, and now ironically that is what we have. Only after solicits stating otherwise, causing some unnecessary frustrations.”

Williams, who’s collaborating on Batwoman with W. Haden Blackman and Amy Reeder, says his schedule was further complicated by the addition of the covers for the high-profile Batman Inc. (He’s since bowed out of that assignment, with the cover for Issue 5 being his last.)

“Even though there has been issues raised in the scheduling and plans being jumped the gun on, DC acknowledges for the greater good of the project we need more time,” he continues. “I’m glad that they saw this was a good idea, this will help maintain a certain standard that we’ve already set in place.”

Visit Williams’ blog for more of his comments, and to see his covers for Batman IncBatwoman #1 is set to debut on April 27, according to the DC Comics website (the solicitations released yesterday say April 6).

What Will Bane & Catwoman Do in The Dark Knight Rises?

January 24, 2011 Leave a comment

It goes without saying that the recent confirmations of Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway’s roles in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES have gotten the whole internet a’talking. I figured the time was right to go into a little more in-depth analysis ‘n speculation about what their involvement might mean and how Bane andCatwoman could figure in to this Bat-finale.

The last known picture of these suspects together...

BANE

In some ways, Bane's hairy back has as much terrifying potential as the Joker's Glasgow smile.

In some ways, Bane’s hairy back has as much terrifying potential as the Joker’s Glasgow smile.

I was initially a little underwhelmed hearing thatthis was the villain Hardy was actually playing. After a grand schemer like Ra’s al-Ghul and an agent of chaos like the Joker, it honestly sounded anticlimactic for Batman to take on a juiced luchador. Plus, he’s already shown up in the movies, so it might feel repetitive. However, after only a little reflection, I realized Bane’s actually the perfect choice for a final heavy.Out of all the villains left in the rogue’s gallery, he’s one of the few with a gimmick that’s still impressive even as it’s close to reality. It takes a lot of creative thinking to devise ways to makereptile men and waking refrigerators work in the more down-to-Earth Gotham Nolan and his crew have established. But Venom? That isn’t far off from monster-making performance drugs like HGH.

Bane's due for some on-screen redemption.

Bane’s due for some on-screen redemption.

Part of the M.O. of the series so far has been to portray characters in ways closer to the comics than the movies have allowed in the past. Hence, we’ve seen a Bruce Wayne who’s an intentionally buffoonish persona, a seriously embittered Two-Face and a legitimately scaryJoker. In BATMAN & ROBIN, Bane was a monosyllabic brute who did Poison Ivy’s dirty work – – a gross simplification of the cerebral and articulate brute who was cunning enough to deduce Batman’s secret identity on his own.

 Without the help of Venom...

Without the help of Venom…

Whereas the previous villains have struck at Batman’s loved ones and psyche, Bane’s the first who’s a very legitimate physical threat. I don’t think he’s going to be a Hulk-like monster who gets absurdly muscular with the twist of a valve. Rather, I see him as a roided-up-but-calculated killer who’s got an arsenal of grappling moves (think more Vale Tudo than pro-wrestling) in addition to the usual choice of knives and guns.

Anybody who doubts if Tom Hardy’s big enough for the part needs to look at the pic to the right. Do you honestly still have doubts? Hardy played a very Bane-like role already as the UK career-convict in BRONSON. Aside from the possibility of a nondescript South American accent, I don’t see this being much of a jump from that part.

CATWOMAN

It'll be a challenge to step in her paw prints...

It’ll be a challenge to step in her paw prints…

Looking closely at the press release Warner issued, you’ll notice that Hathaway’s been confirmed as Selina Kyle, not Catwoman. I totally doubt any publicity agent thought that could pull a fast one on audiences and get them to be surprised when she became a cat-burglar (and sometimes vigilante) in the movie. Thus, it suggests that Ms. Kyle might actually just be a love interest for Wayne as a civilian only. Or, they might just repeat THE DARK KNIGHTs treatment of Two-Face and have her do all the things she does in the comics without actually being called Catwoman outside of passing remarks.

When Selina Kyle&squot;s "costume" is revealed, will it basically look like this?

When Selina Kyle’s “costume” is revealed, will it basically look like this?

Once again, I was a little disappointed to see them use a villainess who’s already shown up in a number of movies (and Michelle Pfeiffer’s sexually-charged dominatrix act is hard one to follow.) I think there’s more to it, now, though. Escalation’s the dominant theme of this new franchise and if Batman’s villains are ramping up in power and theatricality, it follows that his girlfriends would follow suit. The point of Rachel Dawes’ arc was that she, as a normal woman, couldn’t handle Batman’s lifestyle – – both emotionally and literally. She ultimately rejected Bruce because she needed a normal man and ultimately perished for her involvement in this world of psychopaths. Catwoman, for one, wouldn’t be a girl who’d get kidnapped by third-rate crooked cops and, rather than being turned-off by a brooding vigilante, she’d probably be further enticed.

OTHER VILLAINS?

 The other villain?

The other villain?

I’ve got a strong hunch that there are more villains (or, at least, antagonists) that’ve yet to be announced. My wish for the crime/justice escalation war producing a whole gang of supervillains who overrun Gotham might be too much for this third movie (although Bane didfamously break the whole rogue’s gallery out ofArkham in KNIGHTFALL) but there is still that lingering hint from DARK KNIGHT’s conclusion. Just as the ending of BATMAN BEGINSforshadowed the Joker, so too did that ending foreshadow the GCPD’s much-more-serious manhunt for Batman. Considering that Hardy was rumored to play Harvey Bullock for a while and Sarah Essen was named as a potential female lead some time back, I think it’s clear thatthere’s going to be at least one super cop coming in who’ll try to take the bat down legitimately.

Fan boys, be prepared to squeal like a girl at the new Dark Knight Rises villian

January 21, 2011 Leave a comment

Well, villains have been confirmed by Nolan to the press. Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy will be playing Catwoman and Bane respectively. I guess it could work… but Anne Hathaway is too doe eyed for my liking to play the part of Catwoman. And of course, boys will be lusting over her rather than her acting. I, for one, know quite a few boys (Kevin, you are one of them if you are reading this ;p) who thinks she’s gorgeous. I think her eyes are too huge and looks soul-less, but what do i know! :p

The Dark Knight Rises Villains Confirmed: Anne Hathaway is Catwoman, Tom Hardy is Bane

Posted by Sean on January 19th, 2011   Filed under: ActionBooks/Comics
Source: L.A. Times

Finally some big news to report this week, and guess what… it has something to do with comic book movie casting! After nearly a year of speculation and rumours, we now know who the main villains will be in Christopher Nolan’s third Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises. First of all, Catwoman will indeed play a major part in the film, with Anne Hathaway being the lucky actress to land the role. As for Tom Hardy, who had already joined the cast, he will play the only man ever to have “broken the Bat”, the physically imposing Bane.

There had been reports earlier this month that Christopher Nolan was meeting with a number of actresses for two female roles, including Keira Knightley, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Biel, Kate Mara and Charlotte Riley. One of the roles was believed to be Talia Al Ghul, and although we still don’t know who will play that part, the official press release confirms that Hathaway will be Selina Kyle aka Catwoman. I’m sure she will improve on Halle Berry’s recent take on Catwoman, but can she top Michelle Pfeiffer… or better yet, Julie Newmar?

As for Bane, he is a somewhat surprising choice for a Nolan villain since he is known more for his muscle than his brains (although he is apparently quite smart as well). Up until now it had been believed that Tom Hardy would play Professor Hugo Strange, but apparently that is simply not the case. Nolan did say that Bane would be a “new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies,” so they will probably try to keep him grounded and believable in order to fit into the world that has already been established. So I take it the tubes that pump massive amounts of drugs into his veins to give him superhuman strength are out? What do you think, are you happy with the choice of characters and the actors who will play them?

I’m hoping Jessica Biel lands the role of Talia al ghul!

Disassociation

You know who cares about you the most when you try to disappear from everyone and some just refuse to stay away.

It’s starting to get hard to tell the difference between fact and fiction. Especially with social media nowadays – it’s so hard to define the term ‘friends’.

If you don’t exist virtually, and if you don’t hang out just to be seen in certain places, or if you don’t dress the part or like to hang out in huge groups and you’re sick of all kinds of social behaviour, what does that make you?
